Bon d'or - Acid test for silver

What is this ampoule used for?

This ampoule contains a special acid designed to test silver (Ag). It is intended for professional use only, as the product is highly corrosive.
It allows for a quick check to determine whether a piece of jewelry or metal object actually contains silver.

How it works

• Prepare the touchstone: Lightly rub the item to be tested on a touchstone (not included with the ampoule).

• Break the ampoule:
  Carefully break one end along the marked line. You can keep the ampoule inside its plastic sleeve to avoid any glass shards.

• Apply a drop of acid to the mark left on the stone.

• Observe the reaction:

  • If the mark disappears, the metal is probably not pure silver.

  • If the mark remains visible, it’s a good indication of the presence of silver (or a silver alloy).

Safety precautions

• Professional use only – this type of test is dangerous for domestic use.

• Wearing gloves and safety goggles is mandatory.

• Avoid all contact with skin or eyes — if exposure occurs, rinse thoroughly with clear water.

• Keep the ampoule out of reach of children and untrained individuals.
